She, revisited / by Britta Badour

Somewhere along the way
her aspirations turned into anxieties
Somewhere along the way
she lost all of her dreams
She started numbing her senses with questionable
company and stopped being sober
when lonely nights wouldn’t let her sleep
Turns out
she just had a lot of feelings
She thought she had thick skin
until she was exposed to empathy

She had feelings that felt irrational
since there were feelings about the past
and relationships that didn’t last
The feelings felt more like
unwanted memories and flashbacks

She tries her best to avoid people
she has to be fake around now
'cause being real around storybook characters
just ain’t something she’s figured out
